THE USE OF UNCONVENTIONAL METHODS IN TEACHING " PUNCTUATION MARKS " IN ELEMENTARY GRADES

Abstract

This article explores the use of non-traditional methods in teaching punctuation marks to primary school students within the mother tongue curriculum. Moving beyond conventional teaching approaches, it emphasizes the effectiveness of interactive games, dramatization, visual aids, role-playing techniques, infographics, movement-based tasks, and digital tools in helping young learners grasp the form, function, and usage of punctuation marks. The study analyzes how these innovative strategies contribute to improving students’ written and spoken language skills, enhance their critical thinking, and increase their engagement and motivation during lessons. Practical examples and classroom observations are provided to support the effectiveness of these methods. In addition, the article offers original methodological recommendations developed by the author for effectively teaching punctuation at the primary level. This work serves as a practical guide for primary school teachers, methodologists, linguistics educators, and curriculum developers seeking to modernize and enrich their teaching practices.
