citotoxic test of etanol extract of jinjit leaves desmodium heterocarpon l d c var strigosum van meeuwen against artemia salina leach larvae using brine shrimp lethality test bslt method

Abstract

Abstract Background: Jinjit (Desmodium heterocarpon (L.) D.C var.Strigosum Van Meeuwen) is a plant that is often used, especially by people in the area of Gunung Mas regency. This plant is often used by local people as a traditional medicine for tumor in their bodies. The aims of this research is to know the ability of citotoxic etanol extract of jinjit leaves using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) Method: An experimental research use Post Test Only Control Group Design. Total sampel were 180 Brine shrimp (Artemia salina Leach) larvae. Fiften larvae used ineach 4 groups with 3 times replication. Each group was consecutively given 10,100, 1000,0 μg/ml concentrate of ethanol extract of jinjit (Desmodium heterocarpon [L.] DC.var.Strigosum Van Meeuwen), the fourth group was used as control. Data obtained by calculating amount of died larva in 24 hours after treatment. LC50 value was analyzed by probit analysis using SPSS 19.0 for windows. Result: The average mortality of larvae at a concentration of 10, 100, 1000, and 0 μg/m consecutively were 1, 6, 15 and 0. The higher the extract concentration led to a growing number of high larval mortality. LC50 value of fruit extract of of jinjit (Desmodium heterocarpon [L.] DC.var.Strigosum Van Meeuwen) was 115.158 μg/ml Conclusion: The administering of jinjit leaves extract, in this reserach, had citotoxic activity against Artemia salina Leach larvae according to BSLT method. It is indicated by LC50 value <1000 μg/ml.
