Zuverlässig, Schnell und Genau? - Bedeutung von Algorithmen in der Bildverarbeitung für die Praxis

Abstract

Mit wachsenden Ansprüchen an durch Bildverarbeitung zu lösende Aufgaben gewinnt die Algorithmik gegenüber der Hardware zunehmend an Bedeutung. Ein wesentlicher Aspekt für einen nachhaltig erfolgreichen Einsatz liegt im korrekten Software-Engineering. Bildverarbeitungssoftware sollte weitgehend plattformübergreifend, modular und offen aufgebaut sein. Durch die zunehmende mathematische Fundierung der Bildverarbeitung und damit wachsende Komplexität der Algorithmen wird ein solcher Ansatz immer wichtiger. Er führt von oft unzuverlässigen empirischen Ansätzen zu voraussagbaren, zuverlässigen und in manchen Bereichen optimalen Ergebnissen mit Fehlerabschätzungen, schnellen und effizienten Algorithmen, welche die vorhandene Hardware optimal ausnutzen, und hat schon manche unerwarteten neuen methodischen Ansätze bewirkt. Daher lassen sich viele Bildverarbeitungsaufgaben heute sinnvoller auf allgemeinen Plattformen realisieren als mit speziellen Hardwarelösungen. Diese allgemeinen Aussagen werden belegt mit zwei Fallstudien: Benutzung der lokalen Orientierung zur Texturanalyse und die Bildverarbeitungssoftware heurisko.
