exploring harvard yenching library s rare local gazetteers with logart

Abstract

In this webinar hosted by the Harvard-Yenching Library, Dr. Chen Shih-Pei from the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) will introduce LoGaRT (Local Gazetteers Research Tools), a software designed specifically for collective analysis of China’s rich difangzhi (地方志). LoGaRT used to be limited to a small group of scholars due to license restrictions. With the 410 titles of openly accessible rare local gazetteers from Harvard-Yenching Library’s rare book collection, full-text digitized with support from Max Planck Society and the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation, LoGaRT is now open access. Participants will be able to sign up for an account and explore HYL’s rare local gazetteers with Dr. Chen during the event. More information about LoGaRT is available at https://www.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de/news/local-gazetteers-research-tools-logart-research-tool-made-open-access.
