SWOT Analysis

Abstract

The present document D.1.2. SWOT Analysis is the output of 'Task 1.2 – Mapping weaknesses and strengths via interactive sessions envisaged under the 'WP1. Mapping and Dialogue Opener' of the EMPOWEREDbyNEIA project. The purpose of this deliverable is to stimulate and open dialogue and fruitful exchanges with key regional actors through introductory workshops/interviews to discuss the regional ecosystems' specific contexts and activities. The aim is to collect input on the research output from Task1.1 Capitalizing on available data sources and previous projects, reports and analysis of ecosystems, to map and navigate seven different regional innovation ecosystems around Europe and lay out a picture of each while describing the region's relevant business scaling-up capabilities, such as gaps, needs, opportunities, support structures, and regulatory conditions, e.g. and identify thematic areas at policy, innovation and support to startups level of collaboration among regions in order to interweave it with the contextual knowledge. An approach of thematic collaboration will bring the partners together around common or differently ranked topic priorities in scaling support to startups of sustainable deep tech, such as circular economy, new materials, industry 4.0 and economy. The content of this report is structured based on the interviews and workshops held at the consortium level on the seven regional ecosystems with the key quadruple helix stakeholders. The deliverable introduces the primary purpose of this activity, the methodology used, and a summary overview of the main topics analysed in each ecosystem's overall achievement. Then, a thorough analysis of each region strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) is presented. Also, other key regional elements such as gaps, needs, good and best practices, and potential interregional collaborations are described. Finally, lessons learned, and conclusions based on the analysis made in each ecosystem with number of recommendations for future collaborations are highlighted. This report is the second/final activity under WP1 on Mapping and collaboration on ecosystems. It presents an overview of the seven EU regional ecosystems and will be elaborated as a basis for the WP2 Collaboration Deep Dives & Policy Review and WP3 Alignment on a Joint Programme and Action Plans.
