In my talk I’ll start with the more recent lexical borrowings from Swahili and English (overview of existing papers) and make a step back in time while extracting evidence of linguistic contact between Cigogo and other (non-)Bantu languages from the ethnographic sketch “Die Wagogo: Etnographische Skizze eines ostafrikanischen Bantustammes” written by colonial administrator Claus Heinrig at the beginning of the 20th century.
