A catalogue of Afrotropical Dolichopodoidae (Diptera) is compiled for the first time since 1980. It includes 91 genus and 775 valid species and subspecies registered in this Region, two species described from the Zanzibaran copal (Tanzania) and two subantarctic species known from the South of Indian Ocean (French Southern and Antarctic Lands). For each entry, nomenclatural details are given, including authorship, date, place of publication (in short for old literature) and page. For the genus-group names, these details also include the type species and method for designation, the list of valid subgenera, available and unavailable synonyms (if present) arranged chronologically, if only they were used by afrotropical references. For the species-group names, the data also include type locality (for a species in its original combination). Secondary species combinations contain only authorship, year (in parenthesis), original genus of species description (in square brackets) and first reference for a new combination (in parenthesis). Each entry for valid species combinations is followed by the list of invalid species combinations and synonyms. The main enumerated entries are ended with either distribution section or reference section; the latter includes references published after 1980 (if present). The country distribution lists provided is based on data from the most recent generic catalogs and revisions. Appendix to the Catalog contains check-lists of Dolichopodoidae species by countries and territories of the Afrotropical Region. Five valid species and 12 synonymic names are re-combined with various genera.
