Obesidad, complicaciones del embarazo y salud femenina a largo plazo

Abstract

El aumento de peso, el sobrepeso y la obesidad son predictores independientes de enfermedad cardiovascular, síndrome metabólico, diabetes no insulinodependiente y mortalidad temprana, particularmente en mujeres. La obesidad materna, el aumento excesivo de peso gestacional y la retención de peso posparto afectan la fertilidad y aumentan el riesgo de complicaciones obstétricas. Se han realizado intentos para determinar las necesidades energéticas adecuadas de las embarazadas para promover un peso óptimo antes, durante y después del embarazo y evitar el desarrollo de enfermedades crónicas. Como factor de riesgo modificable, el peso corporal puede presentar momentos críticos para implementar intervenciones para prevenir el desarrollo de sobrepeso y obesidad. No existen reglas uniformes que permitan una reducción de peso efectiva, segura y a largo plazo en las embarazadas. El objetivo de esta revisión fue analizar los hallazgos que relacionan la obesidad con las complicaciones del embarazo y la salud femenina a largo plazo.
