Contextualização epidemiológica das mortes por causas externas em crianças e adolescentes de Fortaleza na década de noventa

Abstract

Estudos recentes revelam que causas externas são fatores, cada dia, mais importantes no quadro da mortalidade. Com o objetivo de traçar o perfil epidemiológico das mortes por causas externas em crianças e adolescentes de Fortaleza, de 1990 a 1999, realizou-se a presente pesquisa. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo de caráter exploratório cuja fonte de dados foi o Sistema de Informação de Mortalidade (SIM) do Núcleo de Epidemiologia da SESACE. Analisando os resultados, pudemos observar que houve uma tendência discretamente ascendente no número de óbitos por causas externas na infância e adolescência. O coeficiente de mortalidade mais baixo foi no ano de 1992, já o maior pico ocorreu em 1995; no entanto, a partir de 1996, houve uma queda. Os acidentes de trânsito tiveram seu maior coeficiente no ano de 1995 e, desde então, estão em queda. Já os homicídios, que registraram seu maior pico em 1995, apresentaram discreto declínio a partir de então. Concluímos que as causas externas continuam tendo grande representatividade no grupo etário estudado, exigindo intervenção eficaz priorizando as ações de prevenção.
