Trust is a fundamental social phenomenon that is usually defined as the willingness of an actor to be vulnerable to another actor’s actions. More specifically, organizational trust refers to the trust that individuals have in a particular organization. This entry discusses how the concept of (organizational) trust can be distinguished from related concepts, and how it can be measured. In addition, it provides an overview of empirical research regarding what other factors influence trust, what factors are influenced by it, and what factors moderate these influences. The entry closes with a discussion of trends and future opportunities in organizational trust research.
