Abstract

Plantas do tipo especiarias possuem grande influência na história do mundo, pois eram itens valiosos de troca e comércio como fontes monetárias. Dentre as ervas aromáticas estão o Ocimum basilicum L. e Ocimum minimum L. (Lamiaceae), mais conhecidas por manjericão, são nativas da região asiática, mas já foram introduzidas mundialmente e no Brasil possuem importância econômica. O manjericão apresenta propriedades antimicrobianas, antioxidantes, anti-inflamatória, citotóxica, as raízes são descritas com propriedades antimaláricas e antidiabéticas. O cultivo em hidroponia é uma técnica sem solo, onde as raízes ficam suspensas em meio líquido, recebendo os nutrientes necessários para o desenvolvimento da planta.
