En Inde, dans un contexte de vaste expansion educative, les systemes de formation des enseignants sont insuffisants, malgre les nombreuses recommandations exprimees apres l’independance. Certains domaines prioritaires ont ete definis dans la perspective d’une evolution : professionnalisation de l’education, developpement des approches scientifiques, contribution a la cohesion sociale, sensibilisation a l’environnement, prise en compte des specificites culturelles. L’enseignant doit devenir un agent de la modernisation, du developpement et du progres tout en preservant les liens avec la culture locale.
