Abstract

Cet article propose d’étudier l'école du merveilleux-scientifique (naissance, floraison, déclin et disparition) de Maurice Renard en mobilisant un fonds conséquent d’archives inédites. Apparu dans un article à valeur de manifeste en 1909, le modèle se métamorphose pendant près de 20 ans et change régulièrement de taxinomie pour tenter de séduire critiques et lecteurs. Plus qu’une forme littéraire, le merveilleux-scientifique se révèle dans les textes théoriques de l’auteur être une machine à penser le monde et à éveiller son lecteur.
