Este trabajo examina los procesos de heroificacion en torno a las dos guerras internacionales mas relevantes del Chile del siglo xix: la guerra contra la Confederacion Peru-Boliviana (1836-1839) y la guerra del Pacifico (1879-1884). El texto analiza la circulacion de diferentes modelos de heroificacion presentes a lo largo del siglo xix (como el «heroe victorioso», el «heroe colectivo» y el «heroe martir»), asi como los diversos mecanismos de socializacion de su culto hasta inicios del siglo xx, donde sus figuras fueron utilizadas para cohesionar simbolicamente a una sociedad fracturada por el recrudecimiento de la «cuestion social» y la eclosion de ideologias revolucionarias.
