Abstract

Le numero d’octobre 1937 de La Rivista illustrata del « Popolo d’Italia » contient cinq pages d’illustrations de l’inauguration de la Mostra augustea della romanita. Le choix et le nombre assez reduit des images s’explique sans doute par le fait que l’actualite de la publication est constituee par le voyage de Mussolini en Allemagne. La revue propose un choix d’images legerement retravaillees. La photographie doit servir le regime, qu’elle soit pratiquee par des professionnels, des photojournalistes en l’occurrence travaillant au service du regime, ou qu’elle soit pratiquee par des photographes amateurs. Parmi ces photographes amateurs, nous avons choisi de travailler sur Italo Bertoglio, un ingenieur turinois partage entre la construction d’ouvrages de toute sorte (des centrales electriques et telephoniques, principalement) et la pratique photographique. Ses archives, conservees au Museo nazionale del cinema - Fondazione Maria Adriana Prolo de Turin, contiennent environ trois mille images, des cliches photographiques realises essentiellement dans les annees trente et dont une partie – exigue et neanmoins singuliere – concerne le regime fasciste et en contient les traces. Ce sont bien ces signes, ces empreintes et ces emprunts du climat politique ambiant qui nous interessent dans l’œuvre photographique de Bertoglio, et que nous avons analyses dans notre travail.
