Sovereignty by exteriority. Enumeration and analysis of the Writing of manuel uGarte in the French reviews (1899-1935). Articles published in french by the argentine socialist writer Manuel Ugarte during his stays in Paris and Nice are a little-known part of his work. We propose to list them and to treat them as a homogeneous corpus whose content sheds light on the author’s political thought and reveals two major themes: firstly a definition of the sovereignty of the people in a situation of confrontation with foreign influences, and secondly a non-essentialist definition of national identity. More generally, in addition to offering a new perspective on ugartian nationalism and anti-imperialism, this study will focus on how these two axes show interest for contemporary political theory.
