Les relations culturelles franco-espagnoles (années 20 et 30)

Relaciones culturales franco-españolas (años 20 y 30)

Abstract

France symbolizes for Spain the even cosmopolitan and western culture. When it is not the model to be imitated, she remains the necessary intermediary. The dependence of Spain towards the nearby country is material, diplomatic and cultural. It is on her that bases themselves unequal relations and that crystallize stereotypical representations which assert themselves again during critical moments. This one explains the durability of the French-Spanish misunderstanding: Spain knows everything or hopes for everything of France while this one ignores the Spanish reality. The heated debate of this situation arouses on the eve of the occult World War I a loss of influence of France while Spain again seems to live as in the previous century of imported science and imitation whereas numerous Spanish authors continue to denounce" the myth of Paris ". In this context, Catalonia, where took refuge the vanguards movements in 1917, occupies a particular place because it finds in France, where formed his politicians (Cambó, d’Ors, etc.) and his best artists, a shortcut towards the modernity.
