Este artículo analiza algunas dimensiones simbólicas del fenómeno pinochetista en la postdictadura, a partir del análisis de las representaciones y prácticas sociales vinculadas a la figura de Pinochet, que han posibilitado que algunos sectores de la sociedad chilena construyan y legitimen una memoria heroica de la dictadura. Estas son algunas preguntas que este estudio intenta contestar complejizando la propuesta de Steve Stern (2006) y su concepto de memoria heroica desde la perspectiva teórica de la Nueva Historia Cultural.
