Privatización de bienes comunales y despojo campesino en la Extremadura española, siglos XIX-XX

Abstract

El estudio institucional de “los comunes” permite analizar la evolución de las sociedades campesinas durante la construcción y consolidación del estado liberal. Desde finales del siglo XVIII y hasta bien entrado el siglo XX se produjo una desarticulación masiva de este régimen de propiedad causando un profundo impacto social. Se presenta el caso de la región de Extremadura, en el suroeste de Europa. Las peculiares condiciones geográficas y ambientales de este territorio condicionaron el proceso de destrucción de los “comunes”. Para ello, se analiza el marco institucional y los mecanismos para llevarlo a cabo, sin perder de vista el contexto de modernización del sector primario. También se reflejan los diferentes repertorios de resistencia a los cambios producidos y los momentos en los que se trató de optar por su recomposición, coincidentes ambas con los dos períodos republicanos, hasta desaparecer del debate público tras el final de la guerra civil.
