Jeffrey D. Sachs is a renown American economist and advisor to numerous governments and international organizations. Recently, he stands out as an outspoken critic of the U.S. foreign policy, especially of the wars in Ukraine and in the occupied Palestine, and of the incitement to war against China. A distinctive quality of his critique is the first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of the American and global political establishment. This comes to expression in the speech he gave to the European Parliament in February 2025, which gives a very informative and realistic account of the causes of, and the path to, the war in Ukraine. In this speech he argues that Europe should have its own foreign policy and that it should enter negotiations with Russia instead of trying to prolong the lost U.S. caused and led war.
