Abstract

Résumé Depuis les années soixante on a souligné à plusieurs reprises l’importance des sciences modernes pour la constitution de la littérature fantastique. Il semble qu ‘à la base de la littérature fantastique il y a ce qu’on pourrait appeler un conflit épistémique au sens large. C’est-à-dire que la littérature fantastique met en scène un conflit entre différentes conceptions du monde et du réel. Ce conflit est le produit d’un processus historique s’étendant de la fin des Lumières aux abords du Romantisme et au cours duquel des formations épistémiques jusqu’alors dominantes se transforment en formations dominées. C’est dans ce cadre que les para-sciences font leur entrée massive dans la littérature fantastique dès le début du xix e siècle et qu’elles y déploient une existence littéraire dont la fonction poétologique consiste surtout à créer une sorte de merveilleux moderne. Le présent article essaye d’en étudier quelques exemples dans l’œuvre de Charles Nodier tout en tenant compte des réflexions poétologiques de l’auteur faisant preuve d’une lucidité toute particulière.
