Abstract

Regional geography reflects the actual geographical nature of the coutryside more precisely than any other scientific branch. Apart from partial regionalizations complex geographical regionalizations still remain the paramount problem similar to the problem of the dominating element in the region, which most often is the basic presumption of application. In Czechoslovakia the regional geographical research has passed through several phases the last of which was "the geography of the environment". In the 1990s the possibilities of its application in the regional politics of the state came to the fore again.
