PCTO quality indicators, student satisfaction, and school dropout: a study in three Italian regions

Abstract

The PCTO guidelines (DM 774/2019) define the quality criteria for these educational pathways in terms of flexible planning, active student engagement, and formative assessment. This paper presents the results of a study conducted as part of a PRIN 2022 project based on quantitative data collected in five case studies in Italian educational institutions. Results reveal that all PCTO quality indicators are positively correlated with school satisfaction. However, in the regression model, only the usefulness of PCTO in terms of guidance, and the support and usefulness of the internal tutor are associated with higher school satisfaction and, indirectly, lower dropout intentions.
