Abstract

"Globalisierung" ist für die heutige Zeit Schlüsselbegriff und Epochenetikett zugleich. Sie weckt einerseits Hoffnungen auf die Überwindung von Armut und schürt andererseits Ängste vor wachsender sozialer Ungerechtigkeit. Unklar bleibt aber, wann die "Globalisierung" einsetzte. Welche Entwicklungslinien lassen sich nachweisen? Welche Merkmale kennzeichneten sie in der Vergangenheit? Das vorliegende Studienbuch präsentiert die Globalisierungsgeschichte von ihren Anfängen bis zur Gegenwart und arbeitet die Kennzeichen der einzelnen Phasen heraus. Die langfristige Entwicklung grundlegender Infrastrukturen, wichtiger Akteurskategorien (u.a. Multinationale Unternehmen, Internationale Organisationen) und ideengeschichtlicher Konzepte wird knapp und übersichtlich dargestellt. Infoboxen, Schaubilder, Graphiken, Tabellen sowie eine Auswahlbibliographie runden das Kompendium ab.
