Abstract

En el presente capítulo, se aborda el proceso de envejecimiento global asociado a la transición sociodemográfica por inversión de la pirámide poblacional e incremento del índice en los últimos años. Es pertinente propender por el envejecimiento activo, el cual busca optimizar las oportunidades de bienestar físico, mental y social en el ciclo vital, orientando y garantizando acciones de resignificación, influenciado por factores determinantes socioeconómicos, políticos, conductuales, personales, contextuales y/o sanitarios. El envejecimiento activo es definido por la OMS como el “proceso de optimización de oportunidades de salud, participación y seguridad para mejorar la calidad de vida a medida que las personas envejecen”. Razón por la cual, el envejecimiento activo debe hacer parte de la responsabilidad política de cada estado, se establece como un reto en formular e implementar planes, programas y políticas sociales transversales en aras de una sociedad longeva saludable e intergeneracional.
