O trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar os resultados de uma pesquisa sobre as percepções da população em relação aos termos agroecologia e agrotóxicos. Os dados foram coletados em diferentes localidades do município de Salvador (BA), totalizando 1.730 entrevistas. Em torno de 90% dos entrevistados sabem o que é agrotóxico, e 93% tem conhecimento dos seus impactos sobre a saúde humana. Aproximadamente 51% dos entrevistados ouviram falar da agroecologia; porém, 62% não sabem do que se trata a agroecologia. Os resultados indicaram que a população entrevistada possui mais informações sobre agrotóxicos do que sobre agroecologia. Atribuímos esse resultado à falta de uma formação cidadã para as questões ambientais. Outro fato relevante são os impactos da televisão como uma das principais fontes de informação da população brasileira. Recomendamos políticas públicas de formação cidadã em agroecologia e seus benefícios à saúde e ao meio ambiente. Abstract The aim of this paper is to show the results of a survey which verified the perception of the population of Salvador regard to agroecology and pesticides. The data were collected using surveys. It was applied in different locations of Salvador, reaching 1.730 people. A round 90% of the interviewees knew what pesticides are and 93% are aware of its impacts on human health. Approximately 51 % of the interviewees heard about agroecology. However, 62 % do not know what it is. The results indicated that the interviewed population has more information on pesticides than on agroecology. We attributed this result to the lack of citizenship education for environmental issues. Another relevant fact is the impacts of television as one of the main sources of information Brazilian population. We recommend public policies for citizen training on agroecology and its health and environmental benefits. Keywords: Environment, Food sovereignty, Sustainable agriculture.
