Seminario sobre la interacción entre la protección de las obtenciones vegetales y el uso de tecnologías de fitomejoramiento.

Abstract

La misión de la UPOV consiste en proporcionar y fomentar un sistema eficaz para la protección de las variedades vegetales, con miras al desarrollo de nuevas variedades vegetales para beneficio de la sociedad. Cada nueva variedad debe someterse al examen de la distinción, la homogeneidad y la estabilidad (DHE) antes de que se autorice su uso como un cultivo principal. En general, el examen DHE de cultivos principales necesita variedades que sean homocigóticas y tengan una identidad. Como ya sabemos, pueden obtenerse variedades híbridas, como los híbridos de maíz y tomate, cruzando dos líneas puras homocigóticas, y los híbridos exhiben una gran heterosis que es beneficiosa para la mejora del rendimiento. En el caso de los cultivos que no son híbridos, como el trigo, también se necesitan líneas homocigóticas para obtener nuevas variedades. De modo que, tanto en las variedades híbridas como en las que no lo son, el fitomejoramiento de las líneas homocigóticas es un procedimiento básico.
