De "société" à "socialisme" : l'invention néologique et son contexte discursif. Essai de colinguisme appliqué

Abstract

La découverte, au sein des papiers inédits de Sieyès datés des années 1780, de la première attestation du mot socialisme est une bonne occasion pour montrer comment l'analyste de discours peut investir un contexte, une fois sa description effectuée à l'aide d'outils historico-linguistiques (ici les dictionnaires des XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles). L'article suit une double dynamique : d'abord, l'étude des dictionnaires retrace l'extension du mot société jusqu'à son affirmation politique pleine et entière qui à son tour suscite des créations néologiques. Tel est le contexte favorable à "l'invention" de socialisme. Ensuite, l'étude du cheminement analytique d'un des plus grands législateurs de la Révolution française nous mène jusqu'à l'expression de "Traité du socialisme", expression fortement associée aux catégories politiques de Sieyès (qui diffèrent de l'usage courant du XIXe siècle).
