Building for animals. If Historians have, for a long time, underlined and studied the plentiful presence of animals in architecture, they paid less attention, at least in France, to the buildings for animals. This article deals with the present state of studies and new possibilities from examples concerning animals : zoological gardens and circus for wild beats, cow-sheds, stud-farms, stables, race courses and slaughter-houses for farm or cart animals, miniature architectures of dog-kennels, cages or funeral monuments for pets. These artefacts have often been used as experiments. It also makes it possible to study the adaptation to animals of social needs and the reaction to representations concerning animals (decision, reception, life of the building) .
