
It is agreed that the gymnasion mentioned in accounts, inventories and decrees found at Delos should be identified with the gymnasium that is located close to the Stadium, in the north-eastern part of the island. This building, built in ca. 100 BC, cannot be identified with the gymnasion attested from the 3rd c. BC in inscriptions. The latter must be understood as being the Palestra by the lake, where a decree was discovered in situ specifying that the stèle was to be erected «in the gymnasium of Delos».
