Cefaleia e Malária

Abstract

A malaria é a doença parasitaria tropical mais importante do mundo e mata mais pessoas do que qualquer outra doença transmissível, a exceção da tuberculose. Suas manifestações clinicas são as mais diversas e a cefaléia estd entre as mais freqüentes, sendo descrita como sintoma inicial, em conjunto com mialgias, febre, tremores, calafrios, dores articulares e vômitos. Com o objetivo de verificar se o desenvolvimento de cefaléia, durante um quadro de malaria, teria correlação com um aumento da morbimortalidade ou apresentaria valor preditivo de evolução severa com comprometimento do sistema nervoso central, realizamos urna revisão não-sistemática da literatura. Os dados encontrados demonstraram que a cefaleia sozinha ou em combinação com outros sintomas não se comporta como bom preditor nem de malaria nem de severidade de sua evolução, assim como não está relacionada com um aumento da morbimortalidade, o que corrobora a definição de cefaleia que acompanha o quadro clinico de malária, classificada como cefaleia não associada a infecção do sistema nervoso central, relacionada à infecção sistêmica por protozoário intracelular do género Plasmodium.
