Abstract Transmission of Marek’s disease (MD) a lymphoproliferative disease of chickens is usually achieved in the laboratory by parenteral inoculation of infective material into the abdomen or subcutis. However, work at this laboratory has involved intratracheal inoculation of dry dust material in studies of the airborne transmission of MD. This report describes an instrument and control system used to carry out inoculations of dry particulate material into the lungs of chickens. Although many designs of intubators were examined, the simple one shown schematically in Figure 1 was found to perform satisfactory. It was made from a 7 mm. glass tube approximately 12 cm. long formed at one end to fit into the laryngeal orifice of a day-old chick.
