Abstract INTRODUCTION THE native chicken of poultry known as Fayoumi, although it may be inferior in some characters, appears to have genetic merit in other traits when compared to the standard commercial breeds. Probably, the most important of all, is its adaptability to the biological and socio-economical environments of its home country. One of the problems facing poultry breeders is deciding upon a selection program that should be followed to give maximum genetic improvement. Before we do this, we must have in hand, estimates of heritability for the characters in consideration. In previous studies, Issawi et al. (1963), and Amer (1965) studied the heritability of fertility and hatchability in the Fayoumi and the heritability of body weight in the same breed.
