A renewed focus on Free Piston Stirling Engines (FPSE) for Green Solar based power generation provides a vehicle to explore linear alternator technologies for improved performance and efficiency. This paper evaluates Axially Opposed Magnetization (AOM) linear alternators and the potential advantages this technology provides mechanically and magnetically relative to alternator efficiency, while also addressing potential disadvantages from a thermal perspective. Evaluations include numerical analysis, simulation, physical testing, and commercial technology comparisons.
