Medical physics services in Nottinghamshire are provided by staff grouped into three local departments giving the benefit of localised ‘personal service’ to the staff of the major hospitals in each district, but backed up by the resources of a larger group. The reasons and implications of this organisation, unique in the UK, are discussed.
