Abstract

Fronteras de Aceite explora la ecología política de la palma africana en las regiones Costa y Selva Lacandona de Chiapas. Desde una perspectiva gramsciana, analiza la cultura popular campesina para comprender por qué este monocultivo no fue rechazado. El autor sostiene que los monocultivos no son solo proyectos económicos, sino también iniciativas culturales que reconfiguran las prácticas y significados de los territorios rurales. En los casos estudiados, la palma se inscribe en una cultura de modernización que legitima la explotación de la naturaleza como vía hacia el progreso. Así, el libro ofrece una visión integral sobre la apropiación del territorio, las transformaciones rurales y los consensos que sostienen la expansión de estos cultivos.
