This situation is now complemented at sea with the requirement for littoral or island states to establish baselines, limits and agreed international boundaries. The background to the particular challenges faced by the surveying and cartographic professions in Trinidad is outlined, outstanding matters are indicated and recommendations made as to general policy and methodology. The emergence of an appropriately qualified national professional cadre is noted.
