Warehouse retailers are large-scale outlets with an attached warehouse facility and their firms use a variety of warehouse operating and merchandising techniques. Many of the leading proponents of this concept have demonstrated the ability to be enormously successful in growing economies but have been quite vulnerable in downturn economies. To establish the warehouse approach as a truly revolutionary concept, operators must make better use of their underpricing advantage, become more self-service-oriented, and develop ways to reduce their overall asset investment.
