Eragrostideae characteristically have 3-nerved lemmas, but a few genera, unmistakably allied to the tribe on the evidence of their leaf anatomy, have 5 or more lemma nerves. Among these Uniola L., Entoplocamia Stapf and Tetrachne Nees are distinguished by spikelets which fall entire and have the lower florets sterile; they constitute the subtribe Uniolinae. The other subtribes with many-nerved lemmas are Monanthochloinae Potztal and Triodiinae Benth.
