whatever game I may be hunting adds vastly to my interest and pleasure in the field, my reason for sparing hawks is primarily a practical one, because observation has taught me that far from being detrimental, they are valuable to a quail preserve. On the one hand, I sympathize with the farmer who kills a hawk that persistently preys on chickens or ducks that he cannot well keep confined at all times. On the other hand I do not
