Developing countries around the world are faced with acute teacher shortages. As a result many are forced to employ unqualified teachers. This paper describes an attempt in Jordan to provide professional training to unqualified English Teachers while they continue to serve as classroom teachers. The results of this attempt have been so favorable that a question has now been raised as to the comparative merits of traditional preservice versus inservice training.
