Keenly aware that nursing practice must be studied where it occurs rather than in the academic laboratory, the authors candidly present their difficulties, staff members' reactions, and patients' puzzlement as the nurse-researcher, combines nursing and research. This article suggests that clinical research and clinical practice can be wed but, like any marriage, will require hard work for success.
