Abstract

The popular conception of a nurse was a woman well along in years and usually fat. Age apparently stood for maturity of judgment and fatness for a sort of general motherly attribute. Little attention was paid to the fact that such a nurse was usually lazy, slovenly in appearance, and inefficient. The ideal trained nurse of today is youthful looking, slender, and trim. She emanates efficiency and inspires confidence. The improvement in her standards of appearance has kept pace with the improvement in her training and scientific education. The modern
