Una Nueva Especie de Pachycereus (Cactaceae) del Occidente de México

Abstract

Pachycereus tepamo (Cactaceae, Cactoideae, Pachycereeae), a new species from the lower basin of the Balsas River, in the state of Michoacin, Mexico, is described and illustrated. Information concerning its habitat, geographic distribution, and uses is also presented. In addition, morphological characters are used to compare this species with P grandis, P pecten-aboriginum, and P weberi, its closest allied species. Pachycereus tepamo S. Gama & S. Arias, sp. nov. TIPO: Mexico. Michoacin: Mpio. La Huacana, 1 km al sur de Piedras Verdes, carretera La Huacana-Nuevo Churumuco, 5 July 1992, L.
