In response to calls by educators for the integration of gender, race, class, and ethnic considerations into the curriculum, and on appeals by art educators for socially relevant and meaningful teaching, feminist art criticism is proposed as a basis for teaching art criticism in art education. Varieties of contemporary feminist art criticism are outlined, and arguments are made for its use because it both presents respect for pluralisms and differences, and approaches the understanding of art through its social and ideological conditions.
