If there are any doubts that ecology is a growing and very exciting discipline, Professor Darnell has dispelled them in his paper. An undergraduate student could clearly be stimulated by ecology, and that is adequate justification for including ecology in the undergraduate program. But my task in this paper is the examination of ecology as a primary discipline; if being primary is justification for the study of ecology, then this should be demonstrated.
