The writer resided in Florida from 1930 to 1940 and he often encountered Hymenocallis palmeri in the wild, particularly on the west coast of peninsular Florida, from Collier to Pinellas counties. Seeds and bulbs were sent to Major Pam in England for study in the 1930's. Thus there was no question as to its existence. It remains however to correlate recently collected material with the holotype and the type description and thus to arrive at an adequate emended description.
