Abstract

Las redes MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) son un tipo de redes privadas de comunicación ofrecidas por las principales empresas de telecomunicaciones con la peculiaridad que utilizan etiquetas capa 2.5 del modelo OSI para tomar las decisiones de enrutamiento. El protocolo MPLS permite encaminar paquetes de cualquier protocolo de red gracias a estas etiquetas. Este protocolo fue desarrollado con el objetivo de permitirle a los routers tomar decisiones de enrutamiento rápidas. MPLS es un método de alto rendimiento para el envío de paquetes a través de una red, habilitando a los routers de frontera para que apliquen etiquetas sobre los paquetes y por consiguiente se pueden tomar decisiones de enrutamiento basadas en estas etiquetas con una búsqueda que requiere un gasto mínimo. MPLS integra tanto el rendimiento como la gestión de tráfico de la capa de enlace de datos con la escalabilidad y flexibilidad de la capa de red.
