ABSTRACT: Since the 1960s, environmental issues concern has been growing, and one of the main agendas back then was about the environmental impact caused by the economic growth. Thus, environmental economy and ecological economics arise to deal with the relationship between economy and nature. Many years later, in 2008, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) announces the term green economy. These three economies share the interest in studying economy and environment. The following paper aims to perform a literature review, which discuss and reflect on these three economic models. The objective is to expose the differences and similarities between the economic models, their characteristics, the concepts definitions, the contributions that each economy can bring to the environmental problem, and finally, the criticisms that the three models have from authors who analyzed them. Keywords: environmental economics, ecological economics, green economy. https://doi.org/10.22292/mas.v13i6.751
