Abstract : Kevlar 29 and fiberglass laminates were ballistically evaluated with 9 mm projectiles to determine their ability to protect against severe hand gun threats. The Kevlar laminates exhibit an advantage over the glass laminates, providing complete protection against 9 mm projectiles up to 395 m/sec at an areal density of 7.3 kg/square meter. The glass laminates allowed some complete penetrations even at a higher areal density.
